Alberta Referendum 2026 Statement

Alberta Government Referendum 2026 Position

The Government of Alberta is putting forward referendum questions so that Albertans may provide input on several important issues facing the province (refer to the Alberta Referendum 2026 website for government news and updates).

Immigration
The Government of Alberta wants direct input from Albertans on immigration reform. These proposals offer a departure from the status quo, and the government wants direct input from Albertans before proceeding.

Constitution
The government of Alberta believes that a strong mandate from Albertans regarding the constitutional questions would likely trigger good faith negotiations by the federal government. They believe a strong mandate may also increase support for constitutional reforms across the country.

Independence

The Government of Alberta is currently advocating for a sovereign Alberta within a united Canada.

Albertans4Freedom Referendum 2026 Position

Albertans4Freedom is a Third-Party Advertiser organization formed by a group of former Calgary Stay Free Alberta regional leaders and volunteers who spent the winter collecting signatures from fellow Albertans in support of Mitch Sylvester's Citizen Initiative Petition question:

"Do you agree that the Province of Alberta should cease to be a part of Canada to become an independent state?"

We cannot campaign on our original question in this Alberta Referendum 2026; however, we intend to win the independence referendum question that we have on hand.

We believe the majority of Albertans will align with our position as follows:

Albertans4Freedom is OPPOSED to Option 1:

"Alberta should remain a province of Canada."

Albertans4Freedom is IN FAVOUR of Option 2:

"The Government of Alberta should commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada."

How We Are Approaching the Referendum
Albertans4Freedom's primary mission is to encourage Albertans to vote Option 2 on Question 10. We believe Albertans should have the opportunity to decide Alberta's future through a binding independence referendum.

While our campaign is focused on Question 10, we also believe an independent Alberta provides the most comprehensive long-term solution to many of the issues reflected in the other referendum questions.

For transparency, Albertans4Freedom intends to vote Yes on Questions 1–9, but we will not be actively campaigning on those questions.
